Dining in Kamas

The Gateway Grille, adorned with colorful flower baskets, is in the center of town, and it is a great reason to visit Kamas. There is a comfortable, family style dining room and an outdoor patio, with flower baskets adorning the restaurant. The southwestern breakfast items are a good way to spice up the morning with items such as eggs ranchero, breakfast burritos or the buttermilk biscuits with country-style sausage gravy. Soups, salads and sandwiches are served at lunch and for dinner, try the lamb chops, fresh salmon with rice and asparagus, or tangy spice rubbed pork tenderloin with cheddar and chipotle mashed potatoes.

Hi-Mountain Drug at 40 N. Main Street was established in 1920 as a confectionary and has been family owned and operated since 1968. The store is a delightfully nostalgic step back in time and a rare find these days since very little has changed since it first opened its doors. With its original green tile mural below the ice cream counter depicting historic scenes, it offers an eclectic assortment of dry goods ranging from gifts and knitting supplies to music and magazines. The Drug Store won the 2010 "Best In State Award" for its juicy burgers; home style fries and thick old-fashioned milk shakes. The staff all take great pride in quality food and friendly service, and you can be assured of creating fond memories when visiting this jewel of a drug store.

Right next door is the Cutting Board serving gourmet sandwiches, soups and salads. They are open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 7am to 7pm. Much appreciated by everyone at High Star, Nanette and Chris do much more than provide healthy food for locals and visitors; they have become a valued part of the social life in Kamas. Picnic and box lunches can be ordered at a moment's notice and they also do banquets and provide for outside catering.

The Beaver Creek Inn is another local favorite just up the Mirror Lake Highway. It is a good spot to stop in for breakfast, lunch or a light dinner, not to mention local evening entertainment.

For breakfast, try The Yolk provides which serves breakfast from their extensive menu in a pleasant environment with friendly service.

In nearby Oakley, the neon signs beckon you to stop in at "The Road Island Diner" for a bite in the renovated 50's classic kitsch-style diner. They serve pancakes, waffles, biscuits and gravy, garlic buffalo burgers, spicy cheese steak sandwiches, and toasted roast beef subs with mashed potatoes. In the evening try the chicken fried steak, or pot roast, then finish it off with a shake, malt, float, or sundae from the fountain.
