Our Growers Are the Key to Our Success

Carol Allen
Founder and Manager

After attending the University of Vermont and the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird), where she received an MBA in International Finance, Carol Allen started her career in the investment industry where she worked for 18 years until leaving in May of 2009. Growing up in the Midwest with an acre vegetable garden in what would be considered a community garden today, she started her love of gardening.  In 2002, she decided to grow her own garden in Park City and, in the summer of 2009, started an organic vegetable garden on a private ranch in Kamas.  In the fall of 2009, Carol and the partners of High Star Ranch decided to add an organic farm as an amenity to the ranch and to create more of a sustainable community in Kamas as well as the surrounding areas.

Morgan Decker
Grower

A native to Utah, Morgan Decker grew up in SLC and graduated from Utah State University with an American Studies Degree and a minor in music.  Morgan learned and taught ecology at the Professional Residency in Environmental Education Master’s program at the Teton Science in Jackson Hole, WY. He made a living in outdoor recreation and environmental education for ten years, and made the transition to growing plants in 2006.  Morgan coordinated a native plant restoration project called EcoHelpers in Santa Monica, CA, and completed an internship at Wellspring Farm, a CSA organic certified vegetable operation in Marshfield, VT.  In the summer of 2009, he was a full time employee at Sun River CSA in Logan, UT.  Late in 2010, Morgan was hired on as the vegetable and herb grower for High Star Farm.

Additionally, we have a dedicated team of volunteers and an intern that work at the farm each summer for the educational benefit as well as sharing in the organic produce. We also started a program called “Dig It” where children come out to the farm to grow their own veggies and gain an understanding of where there food comes from.
