Wondrous changes occur as the snow melts and brings the promise of new life. Spring run-off brings an abundance of water to the valley, and trees and shrubs burst into bloom. Horses shed their winter coats and graze contentedly on lush green pastures. Sand hill cranes warble and perform their mating ritual dance, swallows, ducks and Canadian geese return to the valley and foxes and field mice emerge shyly from their winter dens. A thousand acres with miles of trails open up for hiking, biking and horseback riding, and whether packing for a day’s riding into the mountains, or heading down to the arenas for some horse training, the world is at your bootstraps at High Star Ranch.
Delightfully cool dawns and long sunny days give way to spectacular sunsets over the Wasatch Range. Flowers bloom, wildlife flourishes, and limitless warm weather activities become available. Practice throwing a line on High Star’s stocked ponds, or take a guided trip to a favorite fishing spot on the Provo and Weber Rivers. Camp by one of the scores of mountain lakes and push off in a canoe. Water-ski on one of the nearby reservoirs. Enjoy a round of golf on one of the many beautiful courses in the area. Hike with your dog, ride your horse or bike along the canal and up into the hills and mountains on well-planned trails. Take in the panoramic view from our picnic spot up on the Knoll, equipped with water, shade and corals so you and your horse can relax in comfort.
The frosty mornings and cooler temperatures make for some of the most treasured outdoor adventures. For some, the best time of year, this is when leaves change colors; maples turn fiery red, the gamble oaks, orange, and aspens display dazzling shades of gold, providing weeks of striking beauty. This is the season for invigorating outings, even as the first magical dusting of snow arrives. The ranch offers guided horseback rides on trails ascending towards Hoyt’s Peak. Residents and their guests can try their skills at bow, musket or rifle hunting and permitted trips into the backcountry can be arranged with or without guides.
The first snowfall of winter hearkens rising anticipation of skiing and boarding in epic Utah powder at nearby slopes. The world-class ski resorts of Deer Valley, Park City and the Canyons, are within 17 minutes of High Star, and Sundance, Snowbasin, Alta and Snowbird just 45 minutes away. It is hard to imagine a more perfect spot to enjoy winter recreation while enjoying the quality of peaceful country life. You can hike, shoe-shoe or ride your horses on groomed snow trails around the ranch all winter long. Soldier Hollow in Heber and White Pine in Park City offer wonderful cross-country ski trails, and snow mobile access is close by in the Uintas.
