Covering more than 2.2 million acres, it is impossible to grasp the vast majesty of the Uinta National Forest without experiencing it in person. Yet even those who love this mountain region and spend a lifetime here often only get to see just a small fraction of the area.
The Mirror Lake Highway is a scenic by-way, which starts in Kamas and goes 55 miles winding through the mountains and valleys to Evanston Wyoming. There are numerous trailheads offering routes into the wilderness on foot, by bike, and on horseback. In some places you can explore on ATV and in winter, on snowmobile.
