The Great American West

Western riding traces its roots back to the earliest days of taming America, and for many it is a true passion and a way of life. Yet even those who don’t ride horses can share in the fun and camaraderie by watching this exciting sport, instinctively appreciating the connection to our past in its importance in settling the frontier.

High Star Ranch is permeated with this spirit of the old west, as it was developed from the historic S BAR S horse and cattle ranch. For generations, it provided services ranging from sales, boarding, training, tack, breeding, veterinary, and packing into the Uintas. These time-honored traditions have been preserved today, and the facilities renovated and improved to provide for discerning modern standards.

The renovated barn and arena are the heart and soul of Western Riding at High Star and they are well cared for by talented trainer Jessica Morgans where she lives on the premises with her family, Sam Hendrix DVM and their two children.
There are more horses per capita in Utah than any other state in America and a growing number are involved in cutting, which is the traditional western skill of separating a cow from the herd. Buffalo are kept at High Star along with a rotated herd of cows to keep the sport fresh and alive. The large outdoor arena is perfect for the speed and precision of cutting and the indoor arena provides ideal footing for reining. Well maintained trails lead straight from the Western barn up the hillside into the mountains beyond, providing a welcome and relaxing change of pace to training.
